Using casting rods

When to use
For medium to heavy lures and fish that must be pulled out of cover fast — fish cages, weeds, and rocks. Snakehead are the classic target.

Choosing power and action
For frogs and thick cover, MH–H power with fast action helps the hook set and pulls fish out. For minnows and crankbaits in open water, M power with regular to fast action is more forgiving during the fight.

Reel pairing
Pair it with a baitcasting reel. Check the lure and line ratings printed on the rod so they match the lures and line you use.

What is the difference between casting and spinning rods?
Casting rods are used with baitcasting reels: small guides facing up and a trigger grip. Spinning rods are used with spinning reels: larger guides facing down.
What casting rod power for snakehead?
For snakehead near cover, MH–H power with fast action is widely used to pull the fish out of fish cages, weeds, or rocks quickly.
Can a casting rod be used with a spinning reel?
Not recommended. Casting rod guides are small and face up, so line from a spinning reel will not flow smoothly.
